It’s amazing how far this little in-home business has stretched…not to mention all of the beautiful people I have met in the process. This next order was placed by one very loving mother for her daughter’s Sweet Sixteenth birthday. Her daughter wanted a camouflage/outdoorsy themed cake, but also wanted to preserve small feminine elements within the mix.
To come up with just the perfect design I had to stretch out of my comfort zone. I know how to tap into the feminine side of things, but striking just the right balance of boy-girl tension was a little more challenging. After a handful of sketches, I finally landed on the perfect combination.
The base tier is trimmed with Pirouette cookies and tied-up with a small bakers twine bow at the center front. The middle tier is covered in a handmade camouflage wafer paper technique that I created, and finished with edible gold glitter sprinkled throughout (that's right, everything is edible). And finally, the top tier remained simple with a fondant overlay and a hand painted gum paste “16”… and crowned with an over-sized hand-modeled gum paste s’more topper.
You can imagine my joy when my client’s daughter was almost in (happy) tears when her cake was revealed! Mission accomplished.
Now for The Cause…
This beautiful family has a very dear family member who couldn’t be with them to celebrate Sam’s Sweet Sixteen. His name is Derek Baugus. He is 20 years old and has been undergoing cancer treatment at Children’s Hospital. As of last week, his current prognosis isn’t looking as bright as his family had hoped. First and foremost they are asking for your prayers as they transition Derek to in-home hospice care. If you feel compelled to do more, please visit Derek’s page at the following link:
